Introduction to Viewpoints
(Adult Professionals)

Jennifer Seigle’s “Introduction to Viewpoints” workshop is a two-hour creative investigation of the elements of performance. The workshop is grounded in the Viewpoints, a form of improvisation first developed by choreographer Mary Overlie, and later expanded by director Anne Bogart of SITI Company. Through the Viewpoints, Jennifer invites performers and creators to observe and interrogate the materials out of which we create performance - Space, Time, Shape, Movement, and more are explored as we move, watch, listen, and create together. The workshop is an exploration of the creative process through which participants can develop a unique sense of ensemble, even as each participant explores their own way of confronting the theatrical space. Designed for performers, creators, and teaching artists, this workshop provides an opportunity to enrich and explore one’s physical presence in performance in a welcoming, non-judgmental space. Participants should come to the workshop dressed for movement, having memorized a short passage of text (such as one stanza of a poem).
